What a notarization mean?
1. That when the notarial act occurred, the notary was lawfully commissioned, serving a current term, was not suspended, performed the notarization within the State of South Carolina, and that the notarization was done according to law;
2. That the person whose signature was notarized did not appear to be incompetent, lacking understanding of the transaction requiring the notarial act, or acting involuntarily, under duress, or undue influence;
How much can a notary public legally charge?
Pursuant to S.C. Code of Laws §26-1-100(A), notaries public may charge up to $5.00 per notarial act.
In addition to fees for notarial acts, a notary public may charge for travel if the fee is agreed upon in advance between the notary and the party requesting the notarial act,
Can a notary public backdate or post date documents?
Under no circumstances should a notary public include a date other than the current date of the signing. Backdating is both unethical and, more importantly, illegal.
Is a notary public permitted to provide legal advice?

What are acceptable forms of identification?
Acceptable forms of identification are current unexpired State issued driver’s license, State issued identification card, U.S Military ID, U.S passport issued by the U.S department of state, permanent resident card or “green” card issued by the U.S Citizenship and Immigration Services.
